In God’s Hands

Sundays are always a bit exhausting. Preaching tends to take a lot out of me, but yesterday’s service really turned into a “town hall meeting” as we evaluated where we are, where we want to be, and where we need to be. Many churches have Vision Sunday. That wasn’t completely my plan, but it must have been God’s. After lunch, I did what all great people of the faith do and took a Sunday afternoon nap. The nap caused me to be unable to fall asleep last night, so I got up and went into the living room to spend some time with God. It was just what I needed.

Because of my background as a musician and preacher, my prayer time often consists of Scripture and song lyrics. God brought back to my mind a song that goes back approximately 18+ years ago – “My Life Is In Your Hands” by Kathy Troccoli. As I was heavy hearted about several things, I acknowledged that I can’t do it. I can’t build a church. I can’t force my children to Christ. I can’t create a financial miracle overnight. And the list goes on. One by one, I brought these issues to God and said, “Overcomers Church is in Your hands. My finances are in Your hands. My children are in Your hands.” As I recognized that there is a place where my human responsibility ends and the power of God begins, I sensed a humongous burden being lifted. I prayed, I worshiped, and I was able to rest in God’s Promises. Will I have to do this again? Most likely! Some of us have to revisit these exercises repeatedly.

Today, I was able to face the day with a better perspective. Although I would have liked the extra sleep, nothing compares to experiencing the sweetness of God’s presence and the sweet release of knowing that every aspect of my life is in God’s hands.

  1. When we do come to that place of truly placing our lives in his hands, there is a sweet rest that follows. May you know His complete sufficiency in all things.

  2. Yesssssssssss!!!! Lord my life is in your hands!!! It was always in your hands and will continue to be forever!!! 🙏🙏🙏💯 thanks for sharing! Xx

  3. I know it might sound trite, but it is in those times where your faith is strengthened and your trust grows. In times of great heaviness, you can discover a depth with the Lord and your compassion for people dealing with their issues will also grow. Great insight, Pastor Matthew, once again!!!
