Amen.
Liked. With reservations. 😉 Is “praise” the same thing as “self-promotion”? Obviously not. We have to be careful to not overextend the meaning of one cherry-picked passage used for proof texting our own preferences! If you want a job, you self-promote yourself in your resume and in your job interview. There’s certain times when you have to be honest about what your strengths are and what you can do. We don’t want all Christians to be walking around doing nothing but refusing to share anything they are good at for fear of being seen as praising themselves.
But I get your gist! We also don’t want all Christians going around bragging about the things they are good at, never giving credit to God and always presenting themselves as the betters of others!
You are correct. We do have to promote in the sense of trying to get a job, etc. I am drawing attention to the braggart who always posts about what he/she does but will not acknowledge God or anyone else. That’s why I posted the Scripture and let it speak for itself. The Holy Spirit does a better job in revealing the meaning of His book than I can.
You’re good at this! I enjoy reading your posts.
It does speak for itself. Thanks for the great reminder.
Be blessed. God is with you.
Agreed. I think it’s great to talk about what is being done in our lives, but absolutely sharing what God is providing, and guiding us towards. My strengths are only what they are because of a story, or stories related to what He has done. When I write my first book, there will be a testimony attached, and the attention I want to focus on isn’t I did this, but rather, God helped me with this. He guided me. He inspired me. Keeping this scripture in mind, I think greatly humbles us, and it helps us to stay humble. We need to always be aware of how we are promoting ourselves and our accomplishments. 🙂
I most certainly agree! Whatever we do for the Lord, we should do it for His glory and not for our own. When we accept Christ, we die to our old selves and it is He that lives in us; therefore, we should not self-promote ourselves, but we should spread the gospel. Like C.S Lewis once said “Don’t shine so that others can see you. Shine so that through you, others can see Him.”
God bless you! 🙂
I love the C. S. Lewis quote.
