Wait!

I hate waiting! I want instant answers. We are told that we are entitled to instant gratification, right? We are told how much we deserve, so I should just be able to demand that I get what I want when I want, right? WRONG!

Yesterday, I found out something for which I must wait for the answer. I immediately wanted to react rather than respond and start talking to a bunch of people and getting advice. God said, “Wait!” The only thing I could say was, “Yes, Lord!”

What does the Bible say about waiting?

“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” Psalms‬ ‭27:14‬ ‭KJV‬

“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” Isaiah‬ ‭40:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For the vision is yet for an appointed time, but at the end it shall speak, and not lie: though it tarry, wait for it; because it will surely come, it will not tarry.” Habakkuk‬ ‭2:3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

This last verse is extremely important to my situation. The vision will come, but we must wait for it. Waiting does not mean inactivity as we twiddle our thumbs waiting on God to do His part. We continue to walk in obedience and do what we already know to do. He will reveal Himself.

I will close this with a song that has meant the whole to me during those times in God’s waiting room.

  1. Amen, Matthew!

I’m laughing here, but just a tongue in cheek wisdom-hack for those who may not know it. Don’t ever pray for the Lord to increase your patience, because He’ll do exactly that. Just pray, “it’s all good Lord, I’m quite happy to remain in this excited, anticipatory state of impatience, awaiting your surprise.”

  2. My goodness, it feels like yesterday I was in my season of waiting and I was so annoyed by it and then you encouraged me 🙂 This time I’m excited to see what comes from your season of waiting!!
