I remember the first time I heard of a church named “The Church Without Walls”. I thought it was odd. My young, not-so-biblically-literate mind was thinking about a building. I did not grasp the concept that the church is not a building or organization but rather people who have trusted Christ across denominations. As Overcomers is a body of believers that is a little over a year old, we do not have a permanent building. We don’t have traditions. Honestly, it is extremely refreshing.
While many “churches” (as in the organizations) were meeting in ornate buildings, some like us were meeting outside. We celebrate the risen Savior every Sunday. It just happened to be that on Easter Sunday, that worship took place under a park shelter. God sent a nice breeze our way, and some of the campers could hear us. We ate lunch there and stayed until we had to leave. It was wonderful.
We all must grasp the concept that the true church (those who are born again) are not trapped within walls. We are not bound but are free to serve the Lord and reach far and wide with the message that Jesus can forgive and change lives.
Here are some pictures as we worshiped our Lord and Savior without walls.
